Technical Support Engineer

Job Location:  Milpitas, CA or (Reading, UK)

Founded in 2001, Kineto Wireless is the key innovator and leading supplier of UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access) technology, the 3GPP standard for Cellular/Wi-Fi convergence.  Kineto is a privately held, venture-backed company whose UMA-compliant products are enabling mobile operators around the globe to deliver high-performance, low-cost voice, data and IMS services over home, offices and public wireless LANs (WLAN).
Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical support to Kineto Client customers during acceptance test, interoperability test cycles, field test, and final test approvals.
  • Works closely with Client Eng, Program Management and QA team to follow through on resolution according to the priority assigned to the issues.
  • Familiar with a range of technical skills from real-time embedded systems to GSM/GPRS or related telecommunications.
  • Proven track record of working with Tier 1 Mobile Station Handset suppliers and OEM Partners.
  • Strong project/customer account management skill/experience will be a great addition

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience of telecommunications in a technical development or support role.
  • Willingness to adopt and learn new technologies with high self-motivation
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field (i.e., computer science, telecom, and engineering).
  • Strong communication skills.  Skilled in developing and maintaining key professional relationships especially in multi-cultural setting. Bilingual in either Mandarin or Korean is strongly desirable.
  • Basic understanding of Project/Customer Mgmt Skill and be highly organized to handle large number of simultaneous activities in a fast paced environment
  • Good understanding of mobile cellular telecom systems and protocols: either GSM (preferred) or CDMA (acceptable).
  • Experience at the protocol level with GPRS/EDGE is desirable.
  • Good understanding of Internet domain: TCP/IP, routing, IPSec, DNS, and trace analysis using Ethereal.
  • A good understanding of VoIP/UMA including signaling and media gateways is desirable.
  • Familiar with embedded s/w development tools including compilers and linkers, and h/w and s/w debuggers. Solid background in C programming and proficient in reading, and debugging code.
  • Experience with 802.11 and Wireless networking is highly desired.
  • Debugging tool experience is necessary with: protocol analyzer/sniffer, (Ethereal), debuggers, and third party test equipment, (Agilent 8960 & RnS).

Must Have Keywords: 

  • GSM/GPRS
  • TCP/IP, routing, IPSec, DNS, and trace analysis using Ethereal
  • Handset/Mobile device client development experience
  • IOT or IODT support with major Tier 1 carriers, (TMO, Orange, BT…)
  • Technical Support/Product support
  • 802.11 and WiFi
  • Bilingual in Chinese, (Mandarin) or Korean highly desired, (w/o it, the candidate must demonstrate sounded customer management skill in international setting)
  • UMA, (w/o it, the candidate must demonstrate VoIP or sounded GSM/GPRS/WiFi Networking skill)
  • Technical Development experience (C/C++, SDL experience desired)

Travel:
Many of Kineto’s customer integration and test activities are done in third party laboratories or live networks. This position may required off-site support – up to 3 weeks at a time and for a total of up to approximately 20% per year.
